Why convert MP4 to M4A?

Create an audio-only copy of an MP4 interview, lecture, or other recording. The converter encodes its soundtrack as AAC in M4A.

  • Why leave MP4. An MP4 carries the picture too, so it is usually much larger than the audio alone when you only need the sound.
  • Why use M4A. M4A suits voice memos from iPhones, Apple Music libraries, and compact voice files.
  • What you get. The M4A output contains AAC audio at up to 192 kbit/s. It is not Apple Lossless audio. The source needs an audio track. The output has no picture.
  • Qualité. Converting MP4 to M4A cannot improve the sound. The M4A holds only the audio track, so the sound inside the MP4 sets the best quality you can get. The sound in a video is usually compressed already, so M4A compresses it again.
  • Your rights. Convert only files you own or have permission to use.
