All 33 toolsWhy convert MP4 to GIF?
A GIF is a silent animation that loops forever, which is why chats, forums and docs show it inline. This converter turns an MP4 clip into one.
- Why use GIF. GIF suits short reactions, previews, and loops in chats and docs.
- Your rights. Convert only files you own or have permission to use.
What the GIF looks like
- It is 480 pixels wide. The height follows the video, so a 16:9 clip becomes 480 by 270.
- It plays at 10 frames per second.
- It loops continuously and has no sound.
Keep the GIF small
A GIF stores every frame as an image, so it grows fast. At 10 frames per second a 5-second clip is 50 frames, and a 30-second clip is 300.
The converter has no trim control, so cut the MP4 to the moment you need before you upload it.
If the place you are posting accepts video, upload the MP4 instead. It is usually smoother and smaller than the GIF.

When you need more control
The frame rate, width and start time are fixed here. If you need to change them, make the GIF in a video editor and use this page when the defaults are good enough.
