Why convert MP3 to WAV?

Give MP3 audio to software that asks for WAV.

  • Why leave MP3. Each time you edit an MP3 and save it as MP3 again, it loses a little more detail. Edit the WAV instead to avoid that.
  • Why use WAV. WAV suits editing, production, and master copies.
  • What you get. The WAV output contains uncompressed 16-bit audio. It is usually larger than a compressed source. Keep the original. The converted file can differ in size and metadata, and some apps may still not play it.
  • Qualité. Converting MP3 to WAV does not improve the sound, because WAV cannot bring back detail that MP3 compression removed. The WAV is usually larger and easier to edit.
  • Your rights. Convert only files you own or have permission to use.
